ABOUT MAGYAR POSTA

We are not all the same. Some of us like going to the post office and trust arranging our affairs in person most, while others prefer to use their phone or computer to shop, communicate or organise their business. But the one thing we have in common is that speed, accessibility, convenience and price are important for all of us.
At Magyar Posta, we constantly strive to provide services that satisfy both types of needs.

MAGYAR POSTA RANKED AMONG THE WORLD’S TOP 20 POSTAL OPERATORS

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of its foundation, the Universal Postal Union released its annual list of the world’s postal operators compiled according to their level of development. At the annual ceremony held in Bern on World Post Day, Dr Barnabás Balczó, Chairman and CEO, received the “Rising Star” distinction, which recognises the postal operators achieving the greatest overall improvement in the postal development rankings. This accomplishment also means that Magyar Posta is now the best placed of the V4 countries.

On 1 January 2013 Hungary joined the liberalised postal market of the European Union. Under the designating provision of the Postal Services Act, Magyar Posta performs the tasks of the universal service provider until the end of 2030. In this capacity, we have the statutory opportunity and obligation to ensure that all citizens have access without discrimination to postal services that meet the basic needs of customers.
In this spirit, we work to provide services at affordable prices by means and at a technological standard that are accessible to everyone anywhere in Hungary.

PARCELS – AT AROUND 3,500 PICK-UP POINTS

Magyar Posta is one of the most important players in the courier, express and parcel (CEP) market. In 2023, around 30 million parcels were handled by the Company. Of all the Hungarian courier companies, we were the first to set up a parcel locker network.

Currently, parcels can be sent and collected at 700 MPL parcel terminals nationwide. Instead of home delivery, picking up parcels in person is now also available. Today parcels can be collected at petrol stations and retail outlets, in many places 24 hours a day, as well as through the postal network, and their progress can be tracked on our website.

In order to facilitate the efficient processing of the volume of parcels steadily growing from year to year, Magyar Posta is constantly improving its infrastructure. The aim is to ensure that the Company can flexibly handle the rising number of parcels even during peak periods and provide efficient parcel logistics services meeting customer needs by taking advantage of state-of-the-art IT solutions. As part of the MPL+ Programme, by the end of 2023, the Company had established or modernised 17 depots and put into service 14 automated conveyor lines, resulting in even faster parcel processing.

BILL PAYMENTS, ICSEKK, BILL PAYMENT TERMINALS

In 2023, over 138 million bill payment forms worth a total of HUF 1,800 billion were settled at post offices. However, payment no longer has to be made in person at post offices. Over recent years, Magyar Posta has introduced electronic solutions for bill payments. Our iCsekk application is highly popular as it means bills can be paid conveniently in just a few seconds anywhere at any time. Over the last year, around 14 million bills, having a total value of more than HUF 155 billion, were paid through mobile applications (through iCsekk and mobile app solutions incorporated into partners’ apps). This means that over 10% of all bill payments now take place through mobile applications.
