A new chapter in Hungarian–Chinese cultural cooperation: The “Treasures of Nations” stamp series has been launched

Magyar Posta has officially unveiled the first issue of its new multi year stamp series, Treasures of Nations, at the China Cultural Center. The ceremony featured welcome speeches by Gong Tao, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Hungary; dr. Anikó Túri, Administrative State Secretary of the Ministry for National Economy; Wang Rudong, Director of the Budapest China Cultural Center; and dr. Géza Láng, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta.

From 2014 onward, Magyar Posta issued annual stamps depicting the signs of the Chinese zodiac, completing the full 12 year cycle from the Year of the Horse to the Year of the Snake. Building on this success, the newly launched Treasures of Nations series continues the tradition, but with a renewed focus on cultural dialogue: Hungarian and Chinese cultural elements will now appear together on the miniature sheets.

The stamp features the Hungarian citera and the Chinese guzheng — both traditional plucked string instruments — symbolizing the musical heritage and cultural connection between the two nations. The design was created by graphic artist Barnabás Baticz and produced by the Pénzjegynyomda Zrt. On the stamp, the two instruments complement one another.

“The relationship between Hungary and China is a strong example of how strategic partnerships can be built on mutual benefits and respect for each other’s cultural values. We will continue working to deepen economic cooperation while ensuring that cultural ties make this partnership more human centred and socially grounded,” emphasized State Secretary dr. Anikó Túri.

“Our long standing cooperation with the Embassy and the Chinese Cultural Center opens a new dimension in commemorative stamp issuance, allowing stamps to become tools for strengthening intercultural relations. This new series is a tangible expression of that mission, presenting selected treasures of the Hungarian and Chinese nations in a way that faithfully reflects the richness and timelessness of our cultural heritage,” said dr. Géza Láng, Chairman and CEO of Magyar Posta.

In the coming days, Magyar Posta will participate in several Chinese festive events: on 5 February at the Chinese New Year celebration in the Várkert Bazár, and over the weekend at the Spring Festival opening event at the Chinese Trade and Information Center. Visitors will have the opportunity to see not only the new stamp but also the complete 12 year zodiac series.
